Pretty soon, I had all the time in the world at my disposal: the novel coronavirus arrived, along with lockdowns and public health protection measures. That meant no more large-scale music or sports events. That meant no employment for an indefinite period of time. At times like these, keeping the fear of uncertainty at bay becomes a daily, full-time task. Instead of sinking into depression, I started making dreamcatchers. Lots of them. During the day, but also during the night. I tried my hand at different sizes, colors, combinations, and techniques. Having no specific plan in mind, just for pleasure.
I don’t really know why I liked making dreamcatchers so much. There are certainly several reasons, but these two stand out.
First, because somehow it gave me a sense of hope. It served as a protector against the anxiety and fear of uncertainty. It answered the frantic question “what the fuck am I doing now?” with inspiration, confidence, and joy.
Second, simply because they are beautiful...
